I intend to create works that remind my viewer to dream.
Both as a child and adult, I have found solace in retreating to my own world. My surreal compositions work to convey both a sense of nostalgia and whimsy, in an attempt to rediscover my inner child. In my series Grow Down, I have worked to produce a visual arrangement of dream-like digital collages printed as etchings that evoke imaginative and playful feelings. The subject finds herself in an ethereal world, a realm of curiosity and limitless possibility.
The following lyrics from “Dream” by Priscilla Ahn inspired the making of this series:
I was a little girl alone in my little world
Who dreamed of a little home for me
I played pretend between the trees
And fed my houseguests bark and leaves
And laughed in my pretty bed of green
I had a dream
That I could fly from the highest swing
I had a dream
